IBF title fight of WBSS: Yigit vs Baranchyk in New Orleans at 27.10.2018

Baranchyk vs Yigit

Yigit warns Baranchyk to expect the unexpected

Anthony Yigit has told opponent Ivan Baranchyk to expect the unexpected in their hotly anticipated World Boxing Super Series Quarter-Final contest on October 27 at U.N.O Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, USA.

The Swedish southpaw arrived in New Orleans last week to complete the final stages of his training and is full of confidence as prepares to face the Belarusian ‘Beast’ for the vacant IBF World title.

“I know what kind of fight it’s going to be and it’s not the one he’s expecting,” said Yigit. “I think many people, Baranchyk included, are going to be surprised.

“My training has been going great. Everything we’ve been working on, all my preparation and progress have exceeded expectations.

“We wanted to arrive early to get used to the time difference and also to get a feel for the environment, the weather and the people out here. Everyone is so friendly and down to earth in New Orleans. They really love boxing too. I’ve made many friends these past two weeks and they’ll all be cheering for me on October 27. I’m going to have a small home crowd backing me in this fight.

“I know Baranchyk is a tough fighter, but I believe I have the style to beat him. He charges forward relying on sheer strength to win, and that’s not something I haven’t seen before, so I’m sure I’m going to be able to handle it.”

If Yigit is able to overcome Baranchyk and progress to the Semi-Finals, lying in wait will be the winner of Josh Taylor and Ryan Martin, whose Quarter-Final takes place a week later on November 3 at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

“I haven’t seen much of Martin but I wouldn’t count him out. He’s in the World Boxing Super Series for a reason and only the best are here. I would, however, have to guess that Taylor wins this one, and I would prefer it if he does win as it’s time we faced each other. I believe Taylor is the favourite in this tournament, and if I beat him, no one can stand in my way of lifting the Ali Trophy.”

Regis Prograis (United States) vs. Terry Flanagan (England) for the WBC Super-Lightweight Diamond Title & Ivan Baranchyk (Belarus) vs Anthony Yigit (Sweden) in a IBF Super-Lightweight Championship bout.

“I am really happy to be a part of the tournament because there are chances to take all the titles and show everyone that I am the best in the division,” said Baranchyk.

“My nature, effort and my love of boxing will help me to get the Ali Trophy.”

EBU title fight Yigit vs Daws postponed til 11.02.2017

fb_img_1481377605416

Anthony Yigit’s (18-0-1, 11 KOs) European Super Lightweight title fight has been postponed due to a back injury sustained by his opponent Lenny Daws (30-4-2, 11 KOs).

The Stockholm fighter was scheduled to meet the British boxer this Saturday at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton, London, but Daws was ruled out by a medical specialist last night. His chiropractor has recommended that he needs 2 weeks of total rest and treatment before he can resume training again.

Daws said, “I’m absolutely gutted and can’t say how sorry I am to my fans’ and also to Team Yigit. I would never pull out of fight and unfortunately my doctor has had the hard task of making that decision for me. The last thing I’d want to do is get in the ring anything less than one hundred percent fit as this means so much to me. I look forward to recommencing training in the New Year for the rescheduled date.”

Yigit said: ‘’I am sad to hear the fight got cancelled due to Daws’s injury. I want to say I am sorry to all fight fans who was looking forward to this event but safety must come first so there is little that can be done. I wish Daws a quick recovery, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Next year, the belt is mine!’’

Lenny Daws has been forced to postpone his European Super-Lightweight title challenge due to a back injury.

The Morden puncher was scheduled to take on Sweden’s Anthony Yigit this Saturday at the Westcroft Leisure Centre, but was ruled out by a medical specialist last night.

Daws’s chiropractor has recommended that he needs 2 weeks of total rest and treatment before he can resume training again.

Without the headline attraction for the event, promoter Mick Hennessy has postponed the show with a date to be confirmed in early February.

Daws said, “I’m absolutely gutted and can’t say how sorry I am to my fans’ and also to Team Yigit. I would never pull out of fight and unfortunately my doctor has had the hard task of making that decision for me. „Dig it“ Yigit fights 17.12.2016 an EBU title fight in London

DSC00963

Anthony Yigit (18-0-1, 7 KOs) will face British boxer Lenny Daws (30-4-2, 11 KOs) for the vacant EBU European Super Lightweight title on Saturday December 17 at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton, London, England.

The 25 year-old southpaw can become the first Swedish fighter to claim the European crown since heavyweight Anders Eklund in 1987, but will face tough opposition from the former two-time EBU European Union and British Champion ‘Lightning’ Lenny, who will be making a third attempt at the title following controversial defeats to Ruben Nieto and Michele Di Rocco.

“I’ve wanted to fight for the European title for a long time now, and I’m happy to finally get the opportunity to do it,’’ said Yigit. ‘’I know it will be tough fight. Daws is a good fighter with a lot of experience. He’s fought for the European title before, and was winning the fight against Ruben Nieto before the disqualification, so in my eyes, he’s the guy I need to beat to prove I’m the best.

“This is what I’ve trained for and winning the title will be the result of all the hard work I’ve been putting in over the years. I can’t wait to claim my position as the top fighter in Europe and then move on to challenge for the World.”

Daws believes his experience will prove too much for Yigit, and has vowed to take the Stockholm fighter into ‘deep water’ and to stop him before the final bell.

“I’m thrilled that the date and venue is confirmed and now I can face Yigit and finally right all the wrongs that have been done against me and get that European title around my waist,” said Daws.

“I know that I’ve got to do a good and thorough job on him and not leave it in the judges’ hands to decide so I’m aiming to stop him before the end. The fight’s on my turf at the Carshalton Sports Centre and I’ll have my fans driving me on to a memorable win.

“Yigit’s a good kid, he’s tough strong and hungry but I’ve got the experience to take him out into deep, deep water. I’ll now go into more great detail studying him with my trainer, get all the right sparring in and do everything I can to make sure I come out the winner on the night.”

Yigit’s promoter Nisse Suerland says his fighter can overcome the odds and claim a historic victory against the British veteran.

‘’This is going to be tough fight for Anthony, but I believe he is ready for the challenge,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’Daws is a strong, experienced fighter but Anthony has the talent and the skillset to bring the belt back to Sweden.’’

Mikaela Laurén (27-4, 12 KOs) returns to the ring on December 9 on the undercard of Erik Skoglund’s WBA International Light Heavyweight title fight with Timy Shala at the Rosvalla Arena in Nyköping, Sweden

DSC01315.JPG

The former WBC Female World Super Welterweight Champion is back in action for the first time following her loss to domestic rival Klara Svensson on September 10 at the Hovet in Stockholm.

The Stockholm fighter admits she was left disappointed with her performance against Svensson but has vowed to come back stronger as she targets a series of high profile fights in 2017.

‘’I don’t want to make excuses, but that wasn’t me in the ring against Klara, and that’s what makes the loss so difficult to accept,’’ said Laurén. ‘’I can take a loss if I know I gave it my all and put on a good show, but that didn’t happen.

‘’There were a lot of reasons why I didn’t perform as well as I can. I didn’t have the best preparation going into the fight and I let my emotions get in the way. It’s frustrating because I know I’m better than her and I still believe I can beat her.’’

Laurén says she would love a rematch with Svensson, but has first set her sights on a reclaiming her WBC Super Welterweight title and unifying the division,

‘’I can’t wait to get back in the ring,’’ she says. ‘’Losing a fight is like falling of a bike, you need to get straight back on and keep going. It’s important I finish the year with a good win and try to have fun doing it because I didn’t have fun in my last fight.

‘’Then I want to fight Ewa Piatkowska and win my World title back. I’m still undefeated in my weight class, and that belt belongs to me. My goal is to fight her as soon as possible, and after that I want to fight (WBO and WBA World Champion) Hanna Gabriels to unify the division.

‘’Of course, more than anything, I want the rematch with Klara. When I lost to her, it was like a piece of me died so I need to fight her again. I know it can’t happen straight away as she has to meet Cecilia Braækhus first, but after she loses that fight, I want to her next, and hopefully it could happen next Fall.’’

An opponent for Laurén’s comeback fight will be announced soon as she joins an action packed show on December 9 at the Rosvalla Arena in Nyköping.

Erik Skoglund faces ‘The Albanian Bomber’ Timy Shala for the WBA International Light Heavyweight title, Naim Terbunja and Sven Fornling battle it out for the Swedish Light Heavyweight Championship, Otto Wallin faces his toughest career test against American heavyweight Eugene Hill, and rising stars Daniel Hartvig, Patricia Berghult and Hampus Henriksson return to action.

Tickets are available online via http://www.biljettforum.se or by calling 0771-130 150. All the action will be shown live and exclusive in Scandinavia on Viaplay Fighting. For more information please visit http://www.viaplay.se.
