WBF: Newcomer of the Year: Nadjib Mohammedi

Nadjib Mohammedi (France)

WBF Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Champion

Anyone who gives Nathan Cleverly a hard tussle on two days notice, is worth keeping an eye on. Thus, by subsequently opening 2011 with a dominant performance over George Tevdorashvili to clinch the WBF Intercontinental title, Frenchman Mohammedi underlined his potential. Although getting stopped under dubious circumstances in Russia by Dmitry Sukhotsky in October, Nadjib came back well with a decision over veteran Ayittey Powers just a month later – and certainly proved to be the leading newcomer on the WBF stage for bigger things.

Congratulations, Nadjib!

WBF: Trainer des Jahres 2011: Dirk Dzemski

Trainer Of The Year

Dirk Dzemski (Germany)

The young German trainer (40 years) and ex-fighter has in just a few years established himself as one of the best of the younger generation. In 2011, Dzemski left his mark also in the WBF, training ‘Female Fighter of the Year’ Christina Hammer for her win over Maria Lindberg in the ‘Female Fight of the Year’, plus her subsequent WBF Womens World Middleweight title defence against Vashon Living. Throw in Denis Simcic’ successful second defence of his WBF International Light Heavyweight crown in a classic boxing demonstration against tough Sandro Siproshvili and Dzemski is a truly deserving recipient of our inaugural ‘Trainer of the Year’ award.

Congratulations, Dirk!

WBF erklärt Frauenkampf des Jahres 2011: Christina Hammer vs Maria Lindberg!

Female Fight Of The Year

Christina Hammer vs. Maria Lindberg (May 27 2011, Usti nad Labem, Czechia)

WBF Womens World Middleweight Championship

What a fight! The boxrec # 1 middleweight (Hammer) vs the boxrec # 1 superwelterweight (Lindberg)! Both undefeated in a combined 16 pro bouts! Both holding two titles each in their respective divisions (Hammer the WBF and WBO versions, Lindberg the lesser WIBF and WIBA belts). What more could any fan ask? Oh, yes, a good fight, of course. And that is exactly what it was! Both fought their hearts out and after 10 heated rounds, Christina had the last laugh with scores of 97:93 (twice) and 98:92. Obviously, this ‘Female Fight of the Year’ also played a huge role in Hammer collecting our ‘Female Fighter of the Year’ award as well as her coach Dirk Dzemski snatching ‘Trainer of the Year’ honours.

Congratulations, Christina & Maria

Travis Walker will fight Tomasz Adamek at 08.09.2012 in Newark

Travis Walker, 39(31)-7(5)-1, is now named to be the opponent of Tomasz Adameks next fight. In Mai was Travis in Poland and made sparring together with Michael Sprott with Arthur Szpilka and Andrzej Wawrzyk.

Travis Walker met in 2010 Chagaev and won a TKO in march 2012 in Australia against Kali Meehan.

As Adameks opponent was Ustinov named, but as we read he didnot get a visa to travel to USA. If that is the true reason? In these days we hear too often about visa problems (Manuel Charr).

Frank Warren about the Thrill with Haye etc

Here´s the column from Frank Warren in the Sun today:

IT’S a week since the David Haye-Dereck Chisora showdown at West Ham United and I’ve had time to reflect.

It was one of the more controversial fights I’ve been involved in and although BoxNation were the promoters of the show, it was still tough dealing with the political and licensing aspects surrounding the event.

But whatever you felt about Haye v Chisora it was an explosive fight — as I predicted from the outset — and one of the best domestic heavyweight contests seen in recent years that brought the best out of both boxers.

Haye was very impressive and made me eat my words. He did a better job with Chisora than Vitali Klitschko did.

The Hayemaker punched his way back into the heavyweight scene and it remains to be seen what he’ll do from here. If he retires there will be a big hole in the division.

The big fight for him is against WBC champion Vitali, who defends his title against unbeaten but unknown Manuel Charr in September before seeking election to Ukraine’s parliament in October.

Depending on the election results a super-fight against Haye could happen or there’s the chance of a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko.

On the other side of the Atlantic, Amir Khan suffered a ‘shock loss’ when he was knocked out inside four rounds against big-punching Danny Garcia, losing his reinstated WBA super world lightwelterweight title, and the chance to claim the American’s WBC crown.

Despite nearly four years under trainer Freddie Roach it seems Khan hasn’t learnt to fight on the inside and his defence, as I’ve said numerous times, is still a major concern.

There’s no doubt Khan, like Chisora, has a big fighting heart, but his career is now going to be a hard job to rebuild.

A big decision he must make is whether to keep Roach as a trainer.

I’ll be sticking by ENZO MACCARINELLI who tested positive for a banned substance called methylhexaneamine after his fight against Shane McPhilbin.

The substance was in a fat-burner he purchased from a combat magazine and in the advert it stated that it was suitable for athletes and was approved.

Maccarinelli is a good guy and it was an honest mistake and he is devastated people will think that he has cheated.

He’s got a six-month ban but he’s offered to help UK Anti-Doping in any way to stop other sportsmen falling into the same trap.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao may only be around for a year or two more and the name looking to replace them is US star Adrien Broner.

He’s only 22 and unbeaten in 23 fights.See him tonight on BoxNation (Sky Ch 437/Virgin Ch 546) when he defends his WBO super-featherweight title against Vicente Escobedo.
