National Boxing Awards, Malta Boxing Commission

The Malta Boxing
Commission today announced the winners of the 2nd Annual National
Boxing Awards, held at the Dolmen Hotel & Spa, Bugibba. The winners were
honoured in a black tie evening ceremony hosted by Sandro Micallef sports
presenter.

Mrs Malta, Elaine Hun
welcomed nominees and attendees to the ceremony. She was joined on stage to
present the awards certificates alongside Marc James, General Secretary of the
Malta Boxing Commission and Founder of the National Boxing Awards (NBA) as well
as representatives from major sponsors. Now in the 2nd year, the National
Boxing Awards showcased an outstanding level of innovation and creativity across
a diverse and growing sport.

“With more than 15 high calibre entries this
year, the competition was stronger than ever and it is a significant achievement
to have been honoured. The NBA would like to warmly congratulate all winners.
The ceremony of awards recognises all those who continue to bring boxing into a
bright future. We aim
that next year’s awards will be honoured in a live televised presentation” Stated Marc James.

The Malta Boxing
Commission (MBC) National Boxing Awards was established in 2013. It is the most
prestigious MBC event on the National boxing calendar. Its purpose is to award
members whom embody the Boxing Commission’s five core values, Integrity,
Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Leadership. These values go well
beyond the boxing playing field and help guide the individual in making good
daily decisions and choices in all aspects of his or her life.

Not allowed to view the weights

Taras has made his weights today. He was surprised that the information he got yesterday was not true. Billy Corito had 114 kg (not 101 kg as told) and Taras Varava 111 kg. If anybody did not understand the provocative question it will be said clearly: This is a real fight. Pure boxing-sport! Taras is NOT in Malta to lose! He will try his best to win!

The weigh-in started an hour late, because the officials was not informed.
The opponent for Scott Dixon has been changed. He had no visa. Another promoter (a real gentleman) is leaning gloves so that the boxers can fight tomorrow.
I was not allowed to visit the weights. No problem with that, I can live with that.
The officials, my friends from Germany and Belgium, were very surprised about that. Boxers and coaches who asked me why I wasn’t inside were even very disappointed about such a decision. I asked Scott what about the event tomorrow, will I get an accreditation or not. He said they will talk with me after the weights. I had other appointments to do, so I was not waiting until the end. The new opponent to Scott was still not there. His plane from Georgia had not arrived yet.
George Kandelaki, supermiddleweight, no 458 in ranking at boxrec, from Gori, Georgia is the new opponent. Born the same day as the heavyweight boxer with the same name from the same place. Easy to get confused. George has fought 18 times with a record of 11(2)-6(1)-1.
Gary Hincks did not want to have me inside the weights. As I understood they think that I am acting as a spy for MBC, as I am the vice chairman and acting supervisor at MBC. Gary said that MBC is an unprofessional organisation and a real kindergarten. I answered Gary, that he is free to have his opinion and I don’t care about that and I respect that he is engaging another organisation for his sanction. He is free to do that and it’s alright for me. The using of BDF was initiated of Torsten Knille, WBU (German version), and I am just happy to see my friends visiting Malta.
Benny Decroos, Belgium, who will be referee for Scott’s fight. I haven’t seen Benny since he was a referee in Berlin 2012 at an event that GBA sanctioned an I helped Maria Lindberg, Sweden, to fight there. Maria is a member of the German BDB and Regina Bergemann, nowadays BDF, wrote the authorization to box for Maria for that event in Berlin.
Regina I met in Germany during my Christmas‘ vacation 2013 in Hamburg. Regina will be the supervisor of the event tomorrow.
Irene Kostenko, Hamburg, is representing the Russian Boxing Federation in Germany, and is represent of GBU and WIBF in Russia (like I am representing GBU and WIBF in Malta). Irene has her ITS Boxpromotion with successful boxers like the female champions Nikki Adler and Natalia Smirnova, Irene has arranged boxing events in Russia and Chechnya which were live-streamed.
The event tomorrow will not be broadcast and after all these cirumstances I have decided that this event is not worth for me to attend. I wish all the boxers good luck and clean fights. Long live the boxing!

Ashvin Diolle will fight against Franco Fenech.

Great News for Boxing in Malta!

Scott Dixon is in an interview telling about his next fight will be in UK. It will definitely be a great fight in a good show. It will be a WBU title fight.
Further has Scott found a sponsor to bring boxing shows with international well-known and high quality boxers to the island. It does even looks like some Maltese boxers are prepared to get professional. Malta will absolutely be a place at the boxing-map. Scott seems to have big plans and we are looking keen on to get more information shortly.
An event is planned in Portomaso for the 5th April 2014.

Fabulous boxing event in Malta, Rumble in the Med IV

Rumble in the Med IV
It was a successful boxing-event arranged from Prize Boxing Promotion. Since last fight night in Dolmen Hotel in Bugibba was obviously that the quality of the boxing has raised. The over 700 spectators could really enjoy good semi-professional boxing and a grandiose victory of Super-Steve Martin. The first round the referee told Steve not to push otherwise he would be warned. The pushing was made to avoid the try of holdings from Jasmin Vrskic. The fight was clean and in the third round the hard knock-out hit his opponent. The doctor come to the ring to obtain the laying boxer. Luckily everything was alright and he could stand up and leave the ring. Coach Barry Smith prognoses was getting through that Super-Steve would stop his opponent this time with a KO.
The promoter Demis Tonna was even fighting this evening. In the second round Demis was shortly down, but stand up as quick as he got down and as a punish he got his opponent in the corner and after the series of shots his opponent was down and counted out.
Everyone could be happy after this fantastic boxing in the almost sold out Dolmen Hotel. It was to hear that both British and Maltese fans were enjoin a great evening. Prize Boxing is definitely coming to stay with its Rumble in the Med and it is just for boxing-fans to be very happy about that.
Malta Boxing Commission is sponsored with their uniforms from 77 Great Estates. Let us hope that MBC and Prize Boxing will win even more sponsors so the future with a good quality of boxing can be seen in Malta.
